As a tech professional in US, I have also been baffled by whether I should return to China and work in our Beijing office this year.
Our company only gave one-year US salary for returnees. (+ one-year corporate housing in Beijing).
At beginning, I was attracted by the opportunity. But my wife disagreed strongly against the idea of working in China. (She was concerned with how I come back to US after one year in China office, and she did not fully convince me at that moment).
Now after I read your postings full of in-depth wisdom, I realized that my wife has very legitimate concerns. I have decided not to take this opportunity at China at this moment.
