To americans, dating(going out) is just to meet someone, have dinner and later on have sex. It is not meant to be an exclusive relationship until both parties agree explicitly that they are going steady/exclusive. The next step is engagement, which eventually leads to marriage.

Having said that, dating 10 people at the same time is not dating, it's f*cking. Chinese women tend to think sleeping with a guy is a way to show commitment, and maybe to obtain commitment. That may work with a Chinese man, but western men think differently.
