means that during the 5-year period (as permanent resident) immediately prior to the filing of the naturalization application, the person must have spent an accumulative total of 2.5 years in the U.S.;
AND
(2) Continuance Residence Requirement:
means the person can not leave the US for more than 6 to 12 months at a single time - leaving the US for more than 6 to 12 months at a single time would break the permanent residency for naturalization purposes.
