have the full resposbibility of the sucess of the company which mostly is defined by the board. If CEO fail, he has to go. One of failures is that he can not work well with his/her team or he/she can not adpat himself/herself to the culture of the company. One good example is HP's last CEO, she is the case study of today's MBA class.
