Summer of 1989, driving to San Francisco from Milwaukee along I-90. The year before that Yellowstone was just torched but my roommate and I wanted to see the aftermath, and something more.
En route somewhere in S. Dakota, we were stopped by a state trooper, out of nowhere. He issued us a speeding ticket. I was sure that I was not speeding in his Radar gun range. So I tried to argue that it must have been a mistake. Then the trooper pointed in the sky and said: I didn't get you, the plane did, about 5 miles back. Kao!
I looked at the sky, and saw a small plane (not a 直升机). Then I understood what it means "enforce by aircraft" along the route.
The trooper would take the credit card. With my credit limit of $200, I was not able to pay it. Forked over all our cash we have to avoid coming back for the hearing.
The most exciting place on this trip: Mt. Rushmore. Seeing the real thing was 10 times better than seeing from the picture or movie.
How did I get back to Milwaukee? That is another story.
